The history of candles in the home is well known everywhere. They were used to supply the lighting inside a home after the night fell and that was their main function. The heated wax was also used to seal envelopes and other things. Wax was used to make patterns for things like jewelry or other items, but the candle was a most needed item in the homes of old. When gas lighting and electricity came along, the candle did not seem as important as it once was, but it probably did not take long for people to realize that could be still be useful if the power failed and the lights went out.

Today candles have a new use in the home, especially ones that are beautifully scented with appealing fragrances. They are for the most part purely decorative and are used when there is a desire to set a particular mood or perhaps even for religious services or ceremonies. They are still used in churches everywhere for many reasons. The Jewish faith use them as well as the Catholic religion at certain times for certain occasions.

Candles these days come in a wide variety of scents. Some are for everyday fragrance like vanilla and some like spiced apple can be used for the holiday season. You might use Pumpkin scents for Thanksgiving. Even when scented candles are nit lit, they will still give off a scented aroma for a long time before it finally fades somewhat. When they are lit, they will fill a room with the wonderful smell. They are a little like an air freshener or sweetener that works all of the time without having to constantly keep spraying from a can.

Any romantic situation is not quite the same without the soft glow of candle light. They can be placed on a table or used in wall sconces to add the ambiance you are hoping for. Outside, tea light candles can be used to float in a pool or pond. The way they twinkle in the night on the water is somehow very sensual. Tea lights can also be used inside as well. They are small and when many of them are grouped together they can have a lot of impact to any setting. Sometimes electric lights just can not provide the same effects that you can get from a candle and that is why they are still used so very much today, only for different reasons than in days gone by.
